Lord, Teach Us To Pray: Week Eight

1 Chronicles 29:10-13

The LORD reigns; he is robed in majesty; the LORD is robed; he has put on strength as his belt. Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved. Your throne is established from of old; you are from everlasting. Psalm 93:1-2 

Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us…  Ephesians 3:20

I am the LORD; that is my name; my glory I give to no other, nor my praise to carved idols. Isaiah 42:8

For my own sake, for my own sake, I do it, for how should my name be profaned? My glory I will not give to another. Isaiah 48:11

For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea. Habakkuk 2:14

For your name’s sake, O LORD, pardon my guilt, for it is great. Psalm 25:11

Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of your name; deliver us, and atone for our sins, for your name’s sake! Psalm 79:9

…but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

  1. The message acknowledged that the last phrase of the Lord’s Prayer is lacking in some of the most ancient Greek manuscripts, yet we are still invited to use it. Why can we feel confident including this phrase when we pray this prayer?

  2. To pray “yours is the kingdom” is a joyful affirmation of the sovereignty of God. God reigns. How does this truth fuel and inform our prayers?

  3. To pray “yours is the power” is to acknowledge the omnipotence of God; he can do all that he pleases. How does this truth fuel and inform our prayers?

  4. To pray “yours is the glory forever” is to pray for what God most longs for - the advance of his name and reputation on the earth. How does this truth fuel and inform our prayers?

  5. Reflect back on the eight weeks of our time in the Lord’s Prayer. What has the Lord been teaching you - about himself, about prayer, and about your relationship with him?
