Mark 9:14-32
Faith, a radical dependence on God, must be lived out in a broken world (Mark 9:14-19)
It is not the amount of our faith that is key, it is the object of our faith (Mark 9:20-27)
Moments of failure in our walk with God are opportunities to drive us to a deeper dependence in Christ (Mark 9:28-32)
Habakkuk 3:17-19
Discussion questions:
Read Mark 9.14-32.
Jason DeRouchie in his December 2013 blog for Desiring God states that “Faith
is a dependence on God. It is a radical affirmation of our neediness and the sufficiency of Christ.” What does a daily dependence on God look like in the life of a believer?
The disciples in Mark 6 do the very thing they could not do here, they cast out demons. One deep irony when it comes to us as people is that past success can bring future failure. Why do you think this is? Where do you see this creep up in your own life?
Faith, dependence on God, is lived out daily in a broken world. What pulls you from your dependence on God? Where do you find it difficult to rest in His sufficiency? What do you need to do to rest more in Him with this?
How does self-sufficiency express pride while prayer can express humility?
Take some time to pray together, or in smaller groups, with the focus being a
need for deeper dependence on God in a specific area of your life.
