Discussion questions:

The sermon offered ive words of application. For discussion in your group, consider practical ways you might grow in each of those words.

  1. May we regard marriage as the holy and sacred institution that it is. What are the signs/symptoms that we have a “low” view of marriage? What can we do, practically speaking, to build or maintain a “high” view of marriage?

  2. May we prefer obedience to self-fulfillment. Whether in marriage or otherwise, in what areas of your life are you most tempted to the path of self-fulfillment? (I.e., the path that will lead you to immediate happiness/pleasure/satisfaction.) How can you apply the gospel to your heart, so that you prefer obedience to self-fulfillment?

  3. May we walk in humility. How/why might marriage be an occasion for self-righteousness? How can we guard against this?

  4. May we nurture our children toward a high and holy view of marriage. What practical steps can we take to cultivate a biblical view of marriage among the children in our families and church?

  5. May we remember the gospel. In what ways has this conversation prompted you to consider again your need for the gospel?
