Mark 3:7-35

Four Things to See:

  1. Jesus’ kingdom is undeniably victorious

  2. We are invited to participate in Jesus’ eternal kingdom

  3. Ultimately rejecting Jesus’ invitation is unforgivable

  4. Accepting Jesus’ invitation is to become His family.

  • Mark 3:20-30

  • Acts 7:51-58

  • Mark 3:31-35

Discussion questions:

  1. In 3:7-10, the crowd presses around Jesus to receive healing, but shows no concern for His teaching. How do we similarly seek to use Jesus for what He can do for us, rather than seeking Him for who He is?

  2. In the early stages we witness in this passage, Jesus’ ministry and kingdom is clearly successful. As followers of Jesus, we believe not only that Jesus’ kingdom is eternal and victorious, but that we are invited to take part in that kingdom. What are some specific ways that we participate in the kingdom of God? What things distract or hinder us from participating in the kingdom of God?

  3. In 3:28-30, Jesus warns the scribes not to blaspheme the Holy Spirit, that is, He warns them not to reject the only hope of forgiveness. How can we have assurance that we are forgiven forever in Christ?

  4. Jesus gives three invitations throughout this passage. The first is to the disciples in 3:13, the second is to the scribes in 3:23, and the third is to the crowd in 3:34-35. Each invitation is to a group of people who have different sets of struggles. The disciples don’t appear to be cut out for what Jesus has called them to. The scribes are consumed with self-righteousness. The crowd seeks Jesus’ power but not His message.
