SIX TRUTHS TO REST IN DURING LIFE'S STORMS

  1. There are times we are in a storm because we are obedient to Christ (v45).

  2. There are times we are exhausted and we cannot see Christ but He sees us (v48).

  3. Our greatest need in the midst of storms is to behold the glory of Christ (v48-50).

  4. In the midst of the storms rest in knowing His purposes are sure (v45-53).

  5. In the midst of storms know that Christ is sufficient (v51).

  6. Remind yourself daily of points 1-5 again, again, and again when the storm waters rise.

Discussion questions:

  1. Read Mark 6.45-56. Sometimes we are in a storm because we live in a broken world and diseases strike. Sometimes we are in a storm because of the sin of another and we are feeling the repercussions. Sometimes we are in a storm as a consequence of our own sin. And sometimes we are in a storm out of obedience to Christ. How do we know the difference between being in a storm out of our own sin and being in a storm out of obedience to Christ?

  2. Our culture today can be guilty of preaching a cheap prosperity Gospel, a belief that if we follow Jesus things should turn out well for us. Life should be good, our bills should be paid, promotions should come, and really the American Dream of a nice house, a few cars, and a good retirement will be realized. How do the following examples show us how this belief is unbiblical?

  3. Which of the 6 truths is the hardest for you to remember during storms that come into your life?

  4. Which of the 6 truths brings the most comfort to you and why?

  5. Spend time as a group, or in smaller groups praising the Father that Christ does not abandon us in the troubled storms of this world. Spend time thanking the Father for sending His Son to remedy our biggest storm (the need for a Savior).
