Malachi: Week Three
Malachi 2:10-16
“What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.” Mark 10:9
How to “Guard Yourselves and Be Not Faithless”:
We must regard marriage as the holy and sacred institution that it is.
We must prefer obedience to self-fulfillment.
We must walk in humility.
We must nurture our children toward a holy and high view of marriage.
We must remember the gospel.
The LORD said to me in the days of King Josiah: “Have you seen what she did, that faithless one, Israel, how she went up on every high hill and under every green tree, and there played the whore? And I thought, ‘After she has done all this she will return to me,’ but she did not return, and her treacherous sister Judah saw it. Jeremiah 3:6-7
“She saw that for all the adulteries of that faithless one, Israel, I had sent her away with a decree of divorce. Yet her treacherous sister Judah did not fear, but she too went and played the whore. Because she took her whoredom lightly, she polluted the land, committing adultery with stone and tree. Yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah did not return to me with her whole heart, but in pretense, declares the LORD.” Jeremiah 3:8-10
“Return, faithless Israel, declares the LORD. I will not look on you in anger, for I am merciful, declares the LORD. I will not be angry forever.” Jeremiah 3:13
The saying is trustworthy, for: “If we have died with him we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us; if we are faithless, he remains faithful – for he cannot deny himself.” 2 Timothy 2:11-13
