It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? Hebrews 12:1-2

How would we respond?

  • For Christians: Run from evil and turn to Christ

  • Non-Christians: Run from evil and turn to Christ

  • All who feel discouraged: trust in the goodness of God

I will bless the LORD at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul makes its boast in the LORD; let the humble hear and be glad. Oh, magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together! I sought the LORD, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed. This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him and saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them. Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! Oh, fear the LORD, you his saints, for those who fear him have no lack! The young lions suffer want and hunger; but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing. Psalm 34:1-10

LIFE GROUP DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. Ice-Breaker: Share a time when you were overlooked by someone that made you sad, or when you were given special attention by someone that gave you joy.

  2. Which of the six characteristics/virtues that are mentioned in verses 8-9 do you struggle with the most? How does that struggle play out in your life? How can we cultivate these things in our church?

  3. Why is it important to understand exactly what Peter means by “blessing” in verse 9? What are some ways in which this verse could be taken out of context?

  4. Read Psalm 34 in its entirety. Ask: How can the context of this chapter help us understand what Peter is trying to say when he quotes it in 1 Peter 3:10-12?

  5. Have you ever felt as though your sin was putting a strain on your relationship with God, as we see in verse 12? Should we feel the weight of this passage every time we sin?
